11/6/2023 0 Comments Retroarch cores listRetroarch also tends to get unstable switching between games/cores if you have some set to use Vulkan (because it's unplayable otherwise) or software rendering (because Vulkan isn't supported for that game/core). It's also a crap shoot what is best to use for a controller with it. This also means you will have to manually update it yourself whenever you want or need to update it. If you want Retroarch without core limitations you have to sideload it because the play store one is limited to how many cores it can use. It struggles emulating many N64 games, or PS2 games even using the most optimized cores you can find. The Shield Pro also isn't as powerful as you think for emulation. ![]() I call it an android experience downgrade because you don't get any new features at all other than lots of advertisements in the start page and a massive headache trying to get apps that used to work just fine with the older permissions model of Android, and features that used to work no longer working right. There are special Shield builds of Kodi out that are slimmer, but a new skin, and a few plugins will bring the problem right back. Kodi runs fast on this hardware, but Kodi has become a resource hog and sometimes when you wake up the shield it will sit there unresponsive until you unplug the power to reset it or wait it out just from using Kodi pointing to a media library via NFS. ![]() ![]() If you install all your apps and add external storage to work around the lack of space before downgrading to the newest shield "experience", you will experience a lot of glitches. It comes with Android 8 and only has 16GB RAM. It has power but if you don't set it up just so when you first get it, then you'll have a hassle. Gonna be the voice of dissent here stay the hell away from the Nvidia shield.
